Hamas has good intention on reconciliation, says senior Fatah official

The Secretary of Fatah’s Executive Committee said on Sunday that Hamas has a good intention towards reconciliation with his movement, Al-Quds has reported. Jebril Al-Rajoub noted that the committee discussed this issue during its latest meeting in Ramallah and that he is optimistic about ending the internal division.

“We insist on opening a new page and to strengthen the internal Palestinian front,” he explained. The Fatah leadership is to hold a series of meetings to review the internal political track.

Al-Rajoub stressed the importance of the Palestinian National Council and claimed that after the siege is ended, “between 300 and 500 national figures” would be able to go to Gaza where a PNC meeting could be held. At the moment, he pointed out, no Arab country would agree to host the PNC due to the ongoing wars in the region.

“There must be an agreement on setting up a new mechanism to activate the national efforts of all the Palestinians wherever they are to regain our freedom, dignity and independent state with Jerusalem as its capital,” the Fatah official insisted. “Failure to end the internal Palestinian division is not allowed this time.”

The Egyptians have pulled out all the stops for reconciliation, said Al-Rajoub. Their involvement has regional and international support.

The Fatah delegation returned from Cairo with two results, he revealed: “The first is that Hamas has real intentions to end the division and has confirmed this by dissolving the administrative committee in Gaza. The second is Egypt’s insistence to be part of the roadmap to end the division.”

Israel, concluded Al-Rajoub, has benefited the most from the rift between the Palestinian factions.
